From our Principal...
Welcome to St Agnes' Primary School, Highett, a growing and thriving learning community where our students thrive. Our school is characterised by a strong sense of care and belonging, purposeful and evidence-informed teaching, and close connections between students, staff and families. Together, these elements create a supportive and engaging environment where every child is known, valued and encouraged to flourish both in and beyond the classroom.
At St Agnes', our work is guided by three interconnected pillars: strong teaching and learning, a deep commitment to student wellbeing, and genuine partnerships with families. High-quality, evidence-informed teaching ensures students are supported to achieve their best, while our strong wellbeing focus means each child is known, understood and valued as an individual. This is strengthened by the close connections we share with parents and carers, as we believe learning is most effective when school and home work together. These pillars shape a nurturing, supportive environment where students feel confident, cared for and inspired to learn.
High-quality teaching sits at the heart of our work. Our approach is informed by the Science of Learning and grounded in evidence-based practices that align with how students learn most effectively. We place a strong emphasis on English and Mathematics, with teachers using explicit and direct instruction to ensure learning is clear, structured and purposeful. Teachers are supported to implement these learning approaches through expert instructional leadership and coaching in classrooms each day, alongside the work of dedicated, passionate and knowledgeable Learning Support Officers who work closely with students and teachers.
Learning at St Agnes' is also enriched through a wide range of opportunities beyond the classroom. We intentionally provide experiences that allow students to explore interests, develop talents and grow as confident, capable individuals. Through involvement in sport, creative pursuits, leadership opportunities, service initiatives and academic extension, students learn teamwork, perseverance and responsibility. These experiences complement classroom learning and play an important role in supporting wellbeing, social development and a sense of purpose, contributing to the education of the whole child.
At St Agnes', Religious Education invites students to understand the world through the lens of Catholic values and to grow as compassionate, responsible global citizens. Learning is guided by the principles of Catholic Social Teaching, and how we’re called to live as Catholics in the 21st century. Our Sacramental Program supports students to deepen their faith through First Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation. Families are welcomed as partners through liturgies, Masses and shared faith experiences. Through cross-curricular learning and social justice initiatives, students are encouraged to live their faith through action and service.
Our staff are deeply committed to their vocation as educators. They bring care, professionalism and a strong sense of responsibility to their roles as teachers, mentors and role models. We believe that when relationships between students, staff and families are grounded in trust and respect, children are more engaged, motivated and open to learning.
It’s my pleasure to warmly invite you to learn more about St Agnes' Primary School and the values that guide our work. Together, as a community, we strive to create a learning environment where children are nurtured, challenged and inspired to be the very best they can be. Please reach out to us if you would like to learn more about our beautiful St Agnes' community.
